Why Minecraft Is Still Fun In 2022

Jake M

I first started playing Minecraft back in 2014. (8 years ago now) I remember being skeptical initially but falling in love with it after playing for only a few minutes. This was the first game I felt really invested in. I didn't want to put it down. every 5 seconds I would discover something new like a village, mineshaft, or mushroom biome. Then I would go online and be blown away by what others were able to do. I'd watch helpful videos, read guides, and learn as much as I could about the game. I was obsessed!

For a good year of my life, this was the only game I played. I would finish my school work and then log into Minecraft with my friends and play for as long as we could. During that time I built a home, Battled with monsters, and even explored other dimensions. I loved this game. While my obsession with the game eventually died out as I got older, I never got tired of the game and would often revisit it when I could.

How is it that after all these years the game is still being played by millions every day? It's no secret that Minecraft has always been more fun with friends, and while you could technically say that about every game, I think it is especially true for Minecraft. The non-competitive side to the game makes it easy just to relax, hang out with friends and take the game at your own pace. You could go on an adventure and find something new, maybe fight a challenging foe, or you could build something. There is no wrong way to play Minecraft, that's what makes it appealing to so many people.

It also helps that the game is regularly updated, so there is always something new to find. One of the more recent additions to the game completely changed the underground caves. Gone are the days of strip mining on level 12 hoping to find a couple of diamonds. Now there are these vast caverns that are so much more fun to explore but admittedly more dangerous. Especially with the Warden around. It was stressful enough dealing with him now, God knows how I would've handled him as a kid.

I Don't see Minecraft slowing down anytime soon and I wouldn't be surprised if 10 years from now it's still alive and well. I'm always more than happy to come back.
