The Acolyte

⭐⭐⭐

Star Wars' latest show, The Acolyte, has been divisive amongst fans. Criticised for messing with lore carefully crafted by George Lucas before Disney's takeover. While I agree meddling with the narrative of the franchise can be frustrating, I feel this has been massively overblown. The decision to set this 100 years before episode 1 gives Leslye Headland (Creator of The Acolyte) the creative freedom to tell a story without the events of the Skywalker saga holding it back. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series biggest flaw was its inability to include any meaningful narrative developments that risked impacting the original trilogy. The result was a show that felt inconsequential.

The same cannot be said for The Acolyte. It may not reach the heights of the films, but it succeeds in delivering new and memorable ideas in a franchise that has for too long been devoid of any. Featuring thrilling action set pieces and a story that unravels with exciting twists and turns.

It's a shame then that Disney has decided that The Acolyte won't return for a 2nd season. A disappointing decision given how the final episode ended. I want to know what happens next! I believe that given the chance, The Acolyte could've developed into something special. But now, we'll never know.
