The Beta for Modern Warfare 2 has finally dropped giving everyone a chance to play it for free. Like many others, I have been eager to see what this game is like and after playing it I can confidently say that I am very excited for this game's launch on October 28th.
This game is a huge step forward over Vanguard (which didn't impress me at all.) and has improved on what made MW 2019 so good.
The game is visually stunning, the best Call of Duty has ever looked. Everything from the animation to the sound design is perfect. I also love the new and improved gunsmith allowing for extensive customization to change how you play.
GAME MODES
There are 6 available in total:
Team Death Match (TDM)
Domination
Knockout
Prisoner Rescue
Invasion
3rd Person
Nothing new about TDM and Domination, it's the same classic COD gameplay we all know and love. Knockout and Prisoner rescue are the new round-based elimination game mode similar to Search and Destroy. My favorite of the two is Prisoner rescue, like SnD these are round-based games where the objective is to either eliminate the enemy team or successfully secure/defend an objective.
Invasion is a large-scale battle similar to Ground war in MW 2019. This type of gameplay has never really been my thing but it's there for people who enjoy it.
and finally the 3rd person mode. an interesting idea but not something that appeals to me.
Now we move on to the problems I had with the game and unfortunately, there are a few.
My main issue is the Map design
MAPS
there are 6 available in this Beta 4 of which I got a chance to play.
Mercado Las Almas
Museum
Farm 18
BreenBergh Hotel
I hate how complicated these maps are every room has a corner to camp in or a table to hide behind. The confusing map design makes it difficult to predict where the enemy is coming from meaning that most of my deaths were from people I didn't see in time.
Farm 18 is the best out of them as it feels like a more traditional 3-lane map.
A popular complaint from the community is that footsteps are too loud which promotes camping however I would argue that the loud footsteps are necessary as map design is too complicated to rely on sight alone. There are too many places for the enemy to peak you from and not enough time to react.
The return of Doors isn't helping things either as it stops you from being able to survey the room before entering, you are instead forced to go in blind and hope for the best.
Lastly, my final complaint is Final Kill. Why is it still a thing? Nothing ever happens in it so why do they keep bringing it back Play of the game is far more satisfying.
Hopefully, we can see that change before launch.
Overall I am still excited about this game and think it has a lot of potential. It will also be interesting to see what they do with the highly anticipated Warzone 2.0. let's hope it can live up to the hype but only time will tell.
