⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It's hard to believe it has been almost a year since this season first premiered. As a fan of Game of Thrones, I was very excited by this show, yet still it managed to surpass my expectations. I love all the twists and turns and yes the Dragons are very cool!
All the fights, betrayals and scheming you'd expect to see are all present however unlike the original show the story seems more focused, rather than the whole of Westeros we follow the stories of House Targaryen during their reign on the Iron Throne. Despite the more narrow storyline the show still feels just as immersive as its predecessor with complex characters that conflict with one another.
I love the cast for this show everyone plays their role to perfection, although it is weird seeing Matt Smith play such a morally ambiguous character. Especially having grown up watching him as the hero in Doctor Who. This isn't to say I didn't like him in this role in fact he is one of the best parts of the show in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong there are still flaws to the show. Each episode takes place years apart from each other and the time jumping can make it confusing at first. Around halfway through there is a particularly big time jump where some of the actors are replaced with older versions of themselves. This does take some getting used to and it really doesn't help that characters will have really complex names that look and sound the same.
Do they seriously expect us to instantly remember names like Daemon, Aemond & Aegon?!
I think what is most exciting about this show is the promise of things to come in future seasons. The stakes are high for season 2 and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
