⭐⭐⭐⭐

After a demonic outbreak in a facility on Mars, you play as Doom Guy (No seriously, that's his name.) as he carves through his monstrous foes before all Hell is let loose. It's a high-octane, excessively gory 1st person shooter that delivers wave after wave of increasingly difficult levels for you to explore, puzzle solve and shoot your way through. Combat is the obvious focus, giving you plenty of ways to blast apart your enemies into puddles of blood. New to this entry is the "Glory kill" mechanic, allowing you to perform brutal finishing moves to replenish your health. Gone are the days of hiding behind cover and waiting for your health to slowly replenish, Doom is designed to give you non-stop action from start to finish.
It doesn't overstay its welcome. Beating takes you around 8 hours, but every level throws new obstacles to overcome along with new weapons to slay your demonic opponents. I'll admit the ending was underwhelming. The final boss comes and goes, failing to give you the final challenge you'd expect, and the story abruptly ends on a cliffhanger without giving us any expectation for things to come. That being said, the story is hardly the draw here.
It won't be for everyone, but it's very upfront about what it offers, over-the-top violence in chaotic battles against a demonic horde. If that sounds fun, you'll be in for a hell of a time.
